This dive site located at an area in the South coast of S. Miguel Island can be done either from shore or by boat and presents lots of diving spots with of crevices, arches, and caves. Arcos da Caloura is one of the possibilities and is located 300m far from the Resort-Hotel of Caloura. The dive site is in a sheltered area with weak currents. It presents big dimension arches and a small cave with four entrances. The common fauna of Azorean waters such as rainbow wrasses, ornate wrasses, damselfish, scorpion fish, breams, groupers, and parrot fish will be seen along with wide-eyed flounders and Guinean puffer fish in the sand areas. Inside the cave, sometimes a school of big size white trevallys can be there, as well as a school of thicklip grey mullet or some dusky grouper. In the crevices morays will hide and in the surrounding blue schools of barracudas and almaco jacks can be observed.
