This Corvo Island famous dive site is located just in front of the harbor of Vila do Porto. It is unbelievable how a place so near a fishing harbor presents such a number of big size dusky groupers. However, this is because in 1999, after seeing underwater footage of the local dusky groupers, the local fisherman decided to establish the first Volunteer Reserve of Azores and stopped fishing in this area. As in the past some divers also used to feed the dusky groupers they don’t look divers as a threat and close approaches can be done. The observation of the dusky groupers is done around the 30m depth so a close eye must be given to the bottom time.
